The Power of Education

Action Ministries’ Smart Kid! After School programs serve families in high risk, high need communities with tutoring, mentorship, and parent activities. Each Smart Kid! After School program site is focused on meeting achievement benchmarks that include literacy, math, and social/emotional learning skills. Our students face special challenges as they strive to achieve their educational goals.

Since 1988, Action Ministries has worked with children and their families to overcome these challenges, achieve their dreams, and ultimately break the cycle of poverty. We work together with both children and their parents to dream a bigger future for their children through the power of education. The first step, however, to actualizing these dreams is to mobilize volunteers to help children improve their reading and math skills.

We invite you to sign up as a life-changing, dream-actualizing volunteer, assisting with homework assignments and craft projects. Volunteers should be college-aged or older and must be able to volunteer for at least four hours each month. Potential mentors must pass a background check in order to work with children. To sign up, choose a location below and contact the according coordinator:

“I originally signed up to help kids in my community—but the kids ended up blessing me so much with their passion and dreams. It was a joy and honor to serve them and I look forward to building on my time there.”
