Synovus brings in more than $74,000 for Action Ministries’ hunger relief programs

ATLANTA, December 5, 2017 — This fall, Synovus raised over $74,000 in its annual campaigns in support of Action Ministries’ hunger relief programs. The donations will provide both Feed the Hungry Food Boxes and Superpacks. The Synovus Atlanta’s Feed the Hungry / What’s In the Box campaign will provide 11,688 boxes of food — more than 233,760 meals — for families in Synovus Atlanta’s service area. The Synovus Rome Bag It Superpacks campaign will provide 2,504 Superpacks with 15,027 meals for children who face food insecurity on the weekends throughout the school year.

For the fifth consecutive year, customers and friends visited any of Synovus Atlanta’s 40 Bank of North Georgia branches to donate $5 for a food box to feed a family of four for up to five days. This year’s total set a new record for Synovus Atlanta’s Action Ministries campaign, exceeding last year’s results of $67,035.

At all Synovus Atlanta’s Bank of North Georgia branches (www.synovus.com), associates helped customers learn about the program and how each $5 donation allows Action Ministries (www.actionministries.net) to pack a food box containing staples and nonperishables that provide several days’ worth of meals for hungry Georgians.

“We continue to be inspired by the compassion and generosity of our team members, our customers, and our communities each year as we support the remarkable work of Action Ministries in helping to provide more than 248,787  meals for hungry families,” said Rob Garcia, Division CEO, North Georgia Division, Synovus.  “We are proud to support Action Ministries’ meaningful work in our state.”

“With its outstanding support, Synovus bank continues to expand its reach throughout north Georgia by allowing customers to be part of real solutions to help lead people out of poverty in their own communities. Action Ministries, with the support of Synovus and its customers and other partners, is giving hope to people in need. Serving over 100,000 Georgians each year, the need for our services continues,” said S. Kelley Henderson, president & CEO of Action Ministries. “By meeting the basic needs of hunger relief, housing and education, Action Ministries removes barriers that prevent thousands of Georgians from breaking the cycle of poverty and realizing their potential.”
