Nearly 800,000 children in Georgia schools receive free or reduced-price lunch, a crucial meal that disappears in the summer. Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, through the dedication of thousands of volunteers and donors, ensures that these children are fed in the summer and on school breaks. Unlike other feeding programs, we take the food to the children in their neighborhoods, removing the barrier of lack of transportation.
I remember how hard I struggled just to feed them. We volunteer for the Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program now because I know what my kids went through.
Since 2012, Smart Lunch, Smart Kid has served more than 300,000 healthy lunches to Georgia children in the neighborhoods where they live, along with enrichment activities and mentoring opportunities to ensure that their minds, as well as their bodies, are nourished. In 2014, the program aims to serve 200,000 lunches, reaching deeper into the communities we serve with more enrichment opportunities.
