Action Ministries, Piedmont region, was established in 2015 when two Newton County churches, Mt. Pleasant UMC and Alcovy UMC, received a large bequest from a local woman who wanted to make an impact on her community, especially on families and children. The churches, already involved in local missions, desired to partner with Action Ministries, which brought a depth of experience and connections in the area of mobilizing communities to lead people out of poverty. The first programs to come to the area were hunger relief initiatives including Smart Lunch, Smart Kid and Feed the Hungry. Today, the location offers a full complement of services that are designed to lead people out of poverty.
