The executive director of Action Ministries Athens, Erin Barger, was invited to participate in a panel discussion about hunger and malnourishment in America following a screening of the acclaimed documentary “A Place at the Table” on May 11. Action Ministries is known in Athens, and throughout north Georgia, for its involvement on the front lines of hunger relief. The nonprofit’s Our Daily Bread Community Kitchen in Athens provides more than 60,000 nutritious meals annually to men, women and children in need. “A Place at the Table” shows how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultural implications for the United States.
The event was hosted by the Athens Farmers Market to benefit its Double SNAP program. Other panelists included Hugh Acheson, chef, author and restaurateur; Paula Farmer, CCSD nutrition director; and State of Georgia Rep. Spencer Frye. Andre Gallant moderated the discussion.
