This summer, the Women’s Community Kitchen in Atlanta is launching the Smart Kid Summer Enrichment program. Smart Kid will focus on literacy, physical and emotional fitness and STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) for low-income and homeless families to prevent the “summer slide” that children can experience when they miss out on academic stimulation during the school break. Action Ministries has set a goal to provide every participating child, teen and adult (guests of the kitchen) with a new book every week during the summer.
And YOU can help!
Collect books for at the Pre-k through sixth-grade and higher reading levels and donate them to Action Ministries Metro Atlanta. Book pick-ups and drop-offs can be arranged by contacting Katie Farmer by email or at 706-963-0627.
To volunteer with Smart Kid this summer, June 5 through Aug. 4, sign up online here. Volunteers ages 12 to 15 are welcome to participate alongside a parent, guardian or group leader. Children ages 11 and under can participate in Smart Kid programming while parents and siblings volunteer.
