On Saturday, Aug. 26, the first WITH Conference will take place at Dunwoody United Methodist Church. The conference, sponsored by Action Ministries, the Housing and Homeless Council and the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, is designed for churches called to ministry with those struggling with poverty in local communities. The conference will be a time to learn what it means to be in ministry WITH the poor as opposed to “to the poor” or “for the poor” and will serve as an opportunity to network with others doing this important work; to learn from experts; to discover best practices; and to talk with other churches and agencies about partnering in the community to serve people in poverty.
The day will begin with worship, including an address by Dr. Winston Worrell. Two training sessions, continental breakfast, lunch, a vendor fair, and time for networking will also be included.
Topics will include:
- Serving immigrant and refugee populations
- Hunger relief
- Asset-based community development
- Prison ministry
- Affordable housing
- Social enterprises
- Funding missions
- Best practices in local benevolence
